How to enjoy Lantern Hollow (spoiler-free)
Some games you attack. Lantern Hollow is one you settle into. We nearly ruined it for ourselves by rushing, so this is less a guide and more a plea to slow down.
Play with sound on, ideally headphones. The forest talks to you constantly in little creaks and distant sounds, and more than one puzzle solution came to us because we noticed an audio cue before we noticed anything visual.
Don't reach for a walkthrough at the first sign of being stuck. The puzzles here are designed to be solvable by observation, and the moment of working one out yourself is the whole point. If you're truly lost, walk back the way you came and look again.
The game is short, maybe four hours, and that's fine. We'd rather have four memorable hours than twenty padded ones. We finished it in two sittings and immediately missed it.
If you want a palate cleanser between louder games, this is the one. Dim the lights and let it take its time.
